A simple Review of MSN messenger

MSN are now (February 05) onto Beta version 7 of their popular messenger program. The program has evolved hugely from the bare bones messenger program from which it began. It is the most commonly used messenger program above such choices as AOL and yahoo. MSN messenger comes with far more options and is much more usable then other messenger programs.

Why do so many people use MSN messenger?
The advertising that MSN use to promote there messenger program is wide spread and seen by almost all who chose to use the internet for any purpose, be it personal or business use. The high level of budget spent on advertising their messenger program is in part key to the high user level for the program. The option showing any new messages recieved in your hotmail account is another.
It's free, easy to use and most of your friends or work colleagues probably already have it on their computers.
It comes with all new versions of windows named 'windows messenger'.
Plus all the features listed below:
  • Voice conferencing (with speakers and a microphone)
  • A personalised user image
  • A large number of smilies and the option to add more of your own
  • Font and font colour options
  • Play games against other messenger users
  • Surf the internet with other messenger users
  • Use a white board to draw other messenger users images
  • Option to send files through messenger
  • Set your status (away, busy, on the phone etc)
  • Webcam options
  • Multiple options for managing your contacts
  • Many many more options.......

Will MSN use messenger for big brother purposes?
When you install the program or look in the options menu you have the option to be included in an anonymous 'Customer Experience Improvement Program', where MSN will watch your messenger usage habits to improve the messenger programs usability. It is debatable as to whether messenger conversations are logged by msn or not. I can only say this: How many millions of conversations happen on messenger every day? What key words would they look for in a conversation before logging it? Is there much chance of them being even remotely interested in your conversation unless you choose to use the words bomb, terror, suicide, war or sadam too often. I personally think you have very little to worry about.
You can download MSN MessengerHere

Messenger plus!

Messenger Plus! is a program that I would call an add-on for MSN messenger. All you do is download it to your location of choice (I always choose the desktop because it is easy to find there), double click on the icon and follow the install program to add lots more usability to your messenger. It has features such as auto-reply messages when status is set to anything but 'online'. Short cut keys for long sentences, more options for custom emoticons (smilies of your choice), sounds to go with your messages, the choice to remove the advert at the bottom of the MSN messenger window!, you can choose to be informed of any contact signing out (onstead of just knowing about signing in), and much, much more. It basically improves msn messenger and will continue to add more and more usability until it's development is halted.
I suggest you download it and us it. If you decide that you don't like the new options it doesn't really matter because you don't have to use any of them. The actual messenger program always acts as normal until you choose to activate a new function. You can always uninstall it using the automatic uninstall option, although I doubt that once you are using the new options available to you you will want to remove it.
One big suggestion I have for you before you install this program is don't install the sponsor program. The sponsor program is intended to help pay the developer for his time and effort on spent developing this program, but personally I think someone has gone a little over the top with it. It fills your computer with spam and takes over a large amount of the internet explorer screen. Just be sure not to choose the sponsor install option when installing the program. You have been warned. Just click the image below to go to the website where you can download it. Good luck.
